Local Services for Oriental, NC & the Cruising Community
#

Hello, I’m Joe Clark, known around here and along the ICW as “FroJoe.”
I offer a wide range of local services to the Oriental, NC community, nearby towns, and to the many cruisers passing through.

Over my life I’ve worn a lot of hats — gallery owner, photographer, firefighter/EMT, sailor, technician — and I’ve gathered a deep pool of skills and experiences along the way. After developing a chronic illness in 2020, my family and I made major lifestyle changes and became full-time cruisers aboard our sailboat. That journey brought us here, and now it’s time to put all that knowledge to use.

My goal is simple:
Provide good, reliable help in town for fair and honest compensation.

Boat Sitting / Boat Watching
#

If you’re leaving town for a bit and need someone trustworthy to look after your boat, I’m available.

Before you depart, we’ll meet aboard your vessel so I can learn how to board safely and understand what needs to be checked or exercised:

  • Bilge and pumps
  • Engine
  • Generator
  • Battery levels
  • Mooring/lines
  • Dehumidifiers, heaters, etc.

Boat watching can fit nearly any budget — you choose the frequency of check-ins.
If needed, I can also coordinate cleaning, oversee refit or repair projects, and act as your on-site agent while you’re away.

Crew for Hire & Cruising / Boating Consultation

I’ve operated boats my entire life: from dinghies and sailboats to 60-foot sportfishing vessels on the Great Lakes. Since 2021 my family and I have been cruising full-time from the Great Lakes to the Gulf and up the eastern seaboard.

I can help with:

  • Establishing expectations and communication between partners/crews
  • Vessel provisioning and cooking underway
  • Choosing equipment and helpful gadgets
  • Learning to operate marine electronics
  • Improving your cruising skills
  • Buddy-boating to nearby anchorages
  • Anchoring practice, dinghy handling, and docking communication
  • ICW navigation guidance

If you need a second set of hands — or a calm voice while you learn — I’m here.
